About All Aflutter
The 2008 Auction takes place Friday, May 9th. Our theme celebrates the beauty and drama of the natural world. Auction guests will find exciting new items and many new opportunities to support the Montshire Museum.
The evening begins with a Silent Auction of more than 200 wonderful items. Twelve items have been reserved for the Live Auction, starting at 9 p.m.
The event raises more than $100,000 for Montshire's education programs, which bring the joy of learning and discovery to thousands of children and families across Vermont and New Hampshire each year.
Auction items
Auction guests have the opportunity to bid on hundreds of exciting items, from trips and parties to art, wine, and sporting events. To view sample items, please visit our 2008 Auction Catalogue.
Register
Call 802 649-2200 to register to attend the 2008 Montshire Auction. The cost is $65 per person, which includes sophisticated hors d'oeuvres by Christophe Chef Services of The MoonShine Inn. Everyone is welcome, but space is limited.
Raffle
The third annual Live Auction Raffle takes place this year. Everyone, present or not, can participate by purchasing raffle tickets for $50 each and selecting in advance one of five fabulous Live Auction items. This is your opportunity to see the Red Sox play the Yankees, enjoy fresh flowers every month, or experience the Grand Prix in Montreal. If your ticket is drawn, the item you choose will be set aside for you. Buy a raffle ticket today!
Place a bid, win a GPS!
The raffle described above is not to be confused with the final event on Auction night - a very special drawing that gives every silent auction bidder a chance to win. The more you bid, the more chances you have to win! You MUST be present at the end of the Live Auction to win the drawing.
This year's winner will take home a TomTom ONE XL donated by Tele Atlas North America. This portable widescreen GPS car navigation system will take you wherever you want to go throughout the U.S. and Canada. The plug-and-go device features a large touch screen, user-friendly menu, and a choice of 36 languages and 55 voices for the best possible voice navigation. Pre-loaded maps offer fast route calculation and information about millions of points of interest along the way, like gas stations, ATMs and hotels. You can even expand your services for access to real-time information on traffic congestion and weather conditions.
Don't miss your chance to win! Bid often in the Silent Auction, and be sure to stay until the winning ticket is drawn at the end of the Live Auction.
Fund a Need
The Montshire Museum Auction is successful because hundreds of generous individuals gather to enjoy the party and support the Museum. Fund a Need is a new element of the Live Auction that allows you to support an important Montshire program at a level that is right for you. All the funds raised in this effort will help the Montshire serve families in need. Free Montshire visits provide precious memories and a rich learning experience to thousands of struggling families each year.
Help us serve more of these families by participating in Fund a Need. Here's how it will work. Mid-way through the Live Auction, we'll take a break from fabulous trips and exciting parties to remember why the auction proceeds are so important. Instead of asking for bids, the auctioneer will ask you to make a gift to the Museum. There will be opportunities to participate at $500, $250, $100, and even $50. There's no limit to the number of "bids" at each level. Everyone wins—especially the families who will benefit from your generosity.

Tax deductibility
Items donated to the Montshire Auction are tax-deductible. The tax basis, rather than fair market value, is deductible when items are donated for an auction. In general, if the total charitable deduction claimed for non-cash property exceeds $500, the taxpayer must file IRS Form 8283 with the IRS. For property valued at more than $5,000, a written appraisal may be required. For items and services purchased at the Auction, any amount paid that exceeds the fair market value may be tax-deductible. Reservation fees and raffle tickets are not tax-deductible. The Montshire Museum cannot provide tax advice; please consult your tax advisor.
